Spelling tricks with cards are very popular with magicians. In this startling trick you will learn how to spell a spectator's card from the deck. It always has a very strong effect on people.
How It Looks To The Audience
The magician asks a spectator to select any card and then replace it in the deck. He then cuts the deck several times. The magician then asks the spectator to deal one card at a time and spell out the name of his card. When he deals the last letter and turns over the card - it is his card!
How The Trick is Done
To do this amazing card trick all you have to do is to remember the bottom card of the deck. You then give the deck to a spectator and ask him to hold the deck face down and deal as many cards as he wants on to the table. When he has done this, ask him to look at the last card he dealt and remember it.
You then ask him to replace this card on top of the pile of cards he has dealt on the table and then place the remainder of the pack on this pile. This will place the bottom card of the deck on top of his card. You can then ask him to cut the deck several times because it will not affect the position of your car and his card.
After he has cut the pack to his heart's content, take the pack from him and turn it face up. Tell him you want him to think about his card and you will look through the deck and try and find it. It is up to him. If he thinks hard enough, it will make it easier for you to find.
Run through the face up cards in your hands until you get to the bottom card that you have memorised. The card after that card is his card. However, do not stop or pause. Keep on going and as you do so, silently spell the name of his card, with one card counting as one letter.
For example of his card was the two of clubs, then you would silently spell out the cards T-W-O-O-F-C-L-U-B-S. So, that is ten cards.
Stop when you reach the tenth card and separate the deck into two halves at this point. Say to the spectator that you are having trouble finding it because he is not concentrating hard enough. Bring the two halves of the deck together but place the half with the spectator's card behind the other half. This will bring the spectator's card and the nine cards above it to the top of the deck.
Turn the deck face down and give it to the spectator. Tell him it would be better if he did the trick himself. Ask him what card he picked and he will say the two of clubs. Ask him to deal the cards on to the table and spell out his card. Each card dealt will represent one letter.
When he reaches the card, which is the last letter, have him turn the card over slowly. He will be amazed to see it is his card!
